In the essay "Social Media allows military families a deeper connection" by Mike Chalmers the topic is that social media and internet gives access to military troops to connect to their families while deployed. Chalmers' purpose of writing this essay is to inform his audience that social media has made a changed in society. Instead of sending letters and making brief phone calls, military troops can connect to their families and friends in an instant. Social media and technology is a tremendous help on both side of the parties. Benjamin Karney, a social psychologist at University of California, Los Angeles also agrees with Chalmers. He states that, "No other military in history of warfare has had that level of access to their families." Social media has definitely changed society. It is nice to be able to connect to love ones who are on the other side of the world saving our country.
